Hey everyone, Lara and Amy here to give you all an update.
We’re receiving so many messages, so thank you for the love, care and support you’re showing. If we aren’t replying, we’re sorry, but please know we are reading every single message and passing them on to mum, who appreciates them hugely.
Physically, things have deteriorated much further. We now have St. Peter’s Hospice care in place at home, and we’ve turned the dining room into a bedroom for mum. It’s become a really calm, comforting space for her, where she’s surrounded by her family, which is exactly where she wants to be.
She’s sleeping for most of the day now, but when she is awake, we’re doing everything we can to make her smile. The other day we had her giggling at Last one Laughing, if you haven’t watched it, you need to! Not only is mum giggling at the TV but she has us laughing with her witty one liners. She certainly hasn’t lost her sense of humour, singing ‘walk this wayyyy’ as we help mum walk 😅. It’s the little things.
With Easter weekend coming up, and that being a proper Short family favourite, we’re just so grateful she’s still here with us for it. Mum has always made it special and gone above and beyond, even in our late twenties she’d still be hiding eggs and writing clues for us. She never missed a year. So this year, we’ll be carrying that tradition on for our Raya and Sonny. And we may even have a surprise visit from the Easter Bunny… aka our life long friends, Heidi and Lily!
It’s been a really really hard week. Some of the medication has been so difficult for her, and it’s not been easy to see. There have been moments that have felt so unfair. But through it all, she’s still here. Still showing us, in her own way, just how strong she is, even when her body is so tired.
Thank you for being here, for supporting her, and for supporting us. We will keep updating when we can.
Happy Easter 🐣🍫🐰
Lara and Amy x
